How Can Ear Acupuncture Help Me?

Ear acupuncture, also known as auriculotherapy or auricular acupuncture, has been practiced in Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 3,000 years. It is a versatile therapy that can be applied to a wide range of health issues.

Pain Management: Ear acupuncture provides pain relief by influencing the nervous system and releasing endorphins. Treatments promote relaxation, reduce inflammation, reduce tension and stiffness in the body, and restore the natural balance of energy. It is commonly used to relieve pain, including conditions like sciatica, arthritis, back pain and migraines.

I was curious to see what effects ear acupuncture would have so I tried having some sessions with Hannah and wow the results were amazing! I had been struggling with lower back tension and even from the first needle being applied I could instantly feel a release and more mobility in my back.

“She conquer to get rid of my pain from a twisted ankle that was causing me so much pain, thanks to her, I got to walk again, even dance for two nights in a row!!”

Mental Health: Ear acupuncture works very well at addressing psychological disorders, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD and any stress-related conditions. Treatments directly target the nervous system and help to reduce excess stress hormones, improve vagal tone and promote deep relaxation.

“The session left me feeling deeply relaxed and refreshed.”

“Her knowledge and personable approach made me feel really comfortable and relaxed from the get go and I felt the benefits of the treatment immediately after. Hannah also used ear seeds and ASP inbetween sessions which I loved.”

Sleep Disorders: Ear acupuncture helps to improve sleep quality and address insomnia by calming the nervous system and relieving stress and emotional imbalances.

“I noticed an immediate improvement in my stress levels and overall well being after my session.”

“I felt deeply relaxed – which was amazing as I had been so tense beforehand.”

Digestive Issues: Ear acupuncture is beneficial for managing digestive issues by targeting specific points on the ear that correspond to the digestive system and related organs, such as the stomach, intestines, liver, and spleen. Treatments help to reduce pain and inflammation.

“I’m now living with reduced inflammation and a more holistic feeling of balance and wellbeing than I had done previously.”

Weight Management: Ear acupuncture can target overeating by increasing satiation and gently reducing appetite. It can also help to curb cravings and balance hormones, supporting a healthy and sustainable weight loss journey.

Hannah’s work has taught me a life lesson – I don’t need to diet, I needed to change my relationship with food. I have spent all of my adult life trying, succeeding and failing to lose weight. As a young woman it was to look good and now, as an older woman, I’m conscious of the health risks I face. I always felt I had no will power – just finish the leftovers, the packet of biscuits, order the pudding and start the diet again tomorrow. With Hannah’s work, my body has adjusted this binge/denial pattern. I am, for the first time in decades, aware of feeling replete  rather than always thinking (and feeling bad) about getting more food. The treats remain in the tin – I look at them but I’m really not interested in eating them. I’m not on a diet, I’m not denying myself – my body tells me what it wants to eat and when it’s had enough. As a result, I’m losing weight gently and am confident I will get to the size that is right for my body, at my time of life. I’m truly grateful, thank you so much Hannah; what a gentle journey you took me on and what an outcome.

Allergies: Ear acupuncture can help manage allergies by stimulating specific points on the ear that influence the immune system, reduce inflammation, and alleviate symptoms such as congestion, sneezing, and itching. Treatments help to build seasonal immunity.

By early afternoon I started getting several symptoms even after medication, but almost immediately after my hayfever seeds were placed all my symptoms stopped. Throughout that day and the next I pressed them every so often and I can’t believe that my symptoms didn’t return for days (including no medication).

Migraines: Ear acupuncture is an effective treatment for migraines by targeting specific points on the ear related to pain regulation, circulation, hormones, tension and stress.

“I had 10 weekly acupuncture sessions with Hannah to help with migraine prevention/relief and shoulder tension. She also placed ear seeds in, so I could use the pressure points between sessions. I really felt the combo made a difference when stress and tension was building up.”

Sinusitis: Ear acupuncture helps to reduce congestion, inflammation, and pain associated with sinusitis, as well as boost the respiratory and immune system.

“Within 5 minutes of the first session I good feel my ‘tubes unblocking,’ and all of the symptoms I’d struggled with for far too long have gone.”

Vertigo: Ear acupuncture works well in treating vertigo by enhancing blood flow to the inner ear, reducing inflammation and improving overall circulation. Vertigo can be associated with muscle tension in the neck and shoulders, and ear acupuncture can help relax these muscles. Treatments also help to reduce stress and promote relaxation, which can aid in managing vertigo.

“I just had a lovely relaxing experience with Hannah helping me with general energy but especially for my dizziness at the moment. I have come away with ear seeds to help me continue the benefits of the treatment and I must say that both immediately after the session and this morning, my dizziness was not as bad.”

Addiction Treatment: Ear acupuncture (using the NADA protocol) has been used as part of addiction treatment programs around the world for over 50 years, particularly for substance use disorder and for helping people to quit smoking. It helps to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms as well as reducing anxiety and promoting a sense of calm.

How does it work?

Ear acupuncture is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which views the body as an interconnected system. In TCM, the ear is a microsystem that mirrors the entire body. Each point on the ear corresponds to a specific part of the body or a physiological function.

The ear is seen as a “map” of the body. The external ear represents the entire body, with different points corresponding to organs, joints, emotions, and body systems.

Acupuncture needles are inserted into specific points on the ear to stimulate energy (also called “Qi”) flow. In TCM, imbalances or blockages in the flow of Qi cause illness or discomfort.

The stimulation of ear acupuncture points sends signals to the brain, which trigger the release of endorphins (the body’s natural painkillers) and other chemicals that help regulate mood, reduce inflammation, and stimulate the healing process. The treatment helps to improve blood flow to specific areas of the body, promoting healing, reducing inflammation, and improving overall circulation.
